Creebridge House Hotel

Pub cafe School Road, Minnigaff, Newton Stewart

The Creebridge House Hotel sits just across the River Cree from Newton Stewart, in the village of Minnigaff, and it is the best option in the area for a proper sit-down meal with your dog after a day in the Galloway hills. Set in mature gardens beside the river, it has the feel of a country house that has been welcoming walkers, anglers, and their dogs for a very long time — because it has.

Dogs in the Bar

Dogs are welcome throughout the bar at Creebridge House. Water bowls come out without any fuss, and the staff are experienced at dealing with four-legged guests who arrive muddy from Glen Trool or Kirroughtree. The bar is relaxed and comfortable — a place you can settle into properly rather than a quick drinks stop — with an atmosphere that suits both a post-walk pint and a longer evening.

The hotel grounds are accessible with dogs, and the gardens running down toward the Cree make for a pleasant few minutes of stretching legs before or after eating.

Food and Drink

The kitchen at Creebridge House takes Galloway’s outstanding local larder seriously. The menu features local game and venison from the Galloway hills, Solway seafood and fish, and produce sourced from the surrounding farms and estates. This is honest Scottish country-house cooking with the advantage of some of the finest raw ingredients in Britain on its doorstep — not heavily fashionable, but deeply reliable.

The drinks selection runs to a good range of Scottish ales and a properly considered whisky list. For anyone arriving from a long day in the hills, it is exactly right.

What to Do Nearby with Your Dog

Newton Stewart and the surrounding area provides some of the finest dog-walking country in Scotland, all within easy reach of Creebridge House:

  • Glen Trool Walk — around 15 miles north, this is the standout walk in the Galloway Forest: ancient oak woodland, Loch Trool, and the climb to Bruce’s Stone, with excellent river swimming throughout. Allow a full half-day.
  • Kirroughtree Forest Trails — right on Newton Stewart’s doorstep, a network of waymarked forest routes suited to all fitness levels. The go-to option if the weather is uncertain or time is short.
  • Murray’s Monument Walk — 8 miles east along the A712, a moorland climb to a dramatic granite obelisk with wide views across the Galloway Hills.
  • The River Cree — the riverside path from Minnigaff upstream is flat, quiet, and pleasant; an easy leg-stretch from the hotel without needing the car.
