Portpatrick Harbour House Hotel
Portpatrick is one of the most beloved coastal villages in Dumfries and Galloway, and the Harbour House Hotel sits right at its heart with views straight over the pretty working harbour. This is a village built for walking, and dogs are very much part of the picture here – the coastal path heads north and south from the village offering spectacular cliff-top walking in both directions.
Portpatrick Village
The village itself is a delight for dog owners. Several of the harbour-front pubs and cafes welcome dogs, and the beach below the village is accessible and popular with dogs year-round. The atmosphere is relaxed and genuinely welcoming of four-legged visitors in a way that not every coastal village manages.
Dog Policy
Dogs are welcome in the hotel’s designated pet-friendly rooms at a charge of £10 per dog per night, with a maximum of two dogs. Dogs are welcome in the bar but not the main restaurant dining room. The coastal path begins effectively at the hotel door.
Coastal Walking
The Portpatrick section of the Southern Upland Way offers dramatic cliff-top walking, with views across to Northern Ireland on clear days. The path north towards Stranraer and south towards the Mull of Galloway both offer excellent dog walking with manageable gradients and spectacular scenery.
