Logan Botanic Garden

Attraction Port Logan, by Stranraer, DG9 9ND

Logan Botanic Garden is one of Scotland’s most extraordinary gardens — a specialist outpost of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, warmed by the Gulf Stream to create a microclimate unlike anywhere else in Scotland. Here, tree ferns, Chilean rhubarb, cabbage palms and exotic Southern Hemisphere plants thrive in the open air on the Rhins of Galloway peninsula.

Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome throughout the garden’s outdoor areas, making it a genuinely pleasant visit for dog owners. The walled garden, woodland and the remarkable tree fern collection all provide beautiful walking, and the paths are well maintained and easy underfoot.

Dogs must remain on leads at all times and are not permitted inside any glasshouses or covered structures. The garden is seasonal, opening April to October, so plan accordingly. Port Logan itself is a gorgeous small harbour village, and the nearby Port Logan Beach is a lovely spot for a post-garden stroll. The Mull of Galloway is just a few miles further south for a spectacular finish to the day.
