The Glen Isle Inn
Palnackie is a small, unhurried village on the tidal reaches of the Urr Water — the kind of Galloway spot that rewards those who go looking for it. Once a busy port trading in granite and timber, it is now a peaceful backwater with good walking on its doorstep and the Glen Isle Inn at its heart.
The Pub
The Glen Isle Inn is a proper village local. Unpretentious and friendly, it is exactly the kind of place that makes a good endpoint for a Galloway walk: a warm welcome, a pint of something well-kept, and no fuss made about the dog coming through the door. The bar has the relaxed feel of a community pub that knows its regulars and is happy to make visitors feel like one of them.
Walks Nearby
Palnackie sits within easy reach of some of the best walking in the eastern Galloway coast. The Urr Water valley offers pleasant riverside paths, and the wider Solway coast — with Kippford and Rockcliffe both nearby — gives access to excellent coastal walking. The Jubilee Path between Rockcliffe and Kippford is one of the finest short coastal walks in Galloway and is just a few miles down the road.
Getting There
Palnackie is a short drive from Dalbeattie and sits on a quiet back road between the A711 and the coast. It is the kind of detour that is well worth taking.
