The Cairn Valley
The Cairn Valley is one of the quieter and more beautiful corners of Galloway, a green valley cut by the Cairn Water running south towards the Nith. The surrounding hills are classic Southern Upland country – open moorland, forestry, and rough pasture – with a network of farm tracks, drove roads, and hill paths offering outstanding walking for all abilities.
Dog Policy
Dogs of all sizes are welcome at absolutely no extra charge, with a maximum of three dogs per cottage by prior arrangement. Each cottage has its own private enclosed garden for safe off-lead exercise. Dog bowls, towels, and treats are provided as standard, and a drying room is available for muddy kit and wet coats – an essential in Galloway.
Moniaive Village
Moniaive is one of Galloway’s most appealing small villages, with a thriving arts community, the excellent Green Tea House cafe, and an annual folk festival in summer. The village is dog-friendly and easily explored on foot, with riverside paths along the Cairn Water providing gentle evening walks from the cottages.
